Pine Bluff Cable Television and the Trinity Foundation donate $25,000 to support Teach For America teachers in Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark., Friday, January 28, 2011-The Pine Bluff School District will be able to hire five more Teach For America teachers next year thanks to a donation from the Trinity Foundation of Pine Bluff and Little Rock. Today the Foundation announced they were donating $12,500 to match the $12,500 challenge grant made by Pine Bluff Cable Television, Inc.

Pine Bluff currently has six Teach For America teachers working in the Pine Bluff public schools. One of these teachers, Mary Quinn, was featured in a front-page news story in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Sunday, January 23.

Pine Bluff School Superintendent Frank Anthony and Pine Bluff High School Principal Melvin Gragg have both been pleased with the Teach For America teachers in Pine Bluff, and Gragg was quoted as saying "I want to get more next year." With five more Teach For America teachers in Pine Bluff in the 2011-2012 school year, their number will almost double.

Marc Billingsley, General Manager of Pine Bluff Cable Television, said, "We are very pleased the Trinity Foundation has matched our challenge grant. We believe this is a step in the right direction towards improving public education in the Pine Bluff schools. We believe these types of investments will build a stronger Pine Bluff in the future."
