Sentinel-Record Photographers Published Nationally

HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas -- Mar. 2006 -- Images taken by The Sentinel-Record’s photographers have been getting national play lately.

Chief photographer Richard Rasmussen recently was asked by The Associated Press and several newspaper outlets from around the country to cover the NCAA Division II women’s basketball tournament at Summit Arena in the Hot Springs Convention Center. His photograph of Michigan’s Grand Valley State University basketball players’ jubilation, with just seconds remaining in the 58-52 win on March 25, 2006, against American International, was published by the Grand Rapids Press. Also, newspapers in Chico, Calif., and Saint Cloud, Minn., published images from the tournament created by the veteran photographer.

Another image Rasmussen shot from a March 9 storm in Hot Springs was moved nationally by the AP, and AP members CNN and FOX news placed the photograph on their Web sites.

Fledgling photographer Mara Kuhn was named AP Photographer of the Month for December 2005 with a heartbreaking photo of a fire in which three children, ages 2, 5, and 10, were killed. Kuhn, a 2000 graduate of Hot Springs High School and an August 2005 graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, submitted the photograph of three firefighters standing in the ruins of the house at 6765 Park Ave., framed by a large cloud of smoke.
